Sunbank was started from the seed of an idea planted on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua. There, James Richards was working with blueEnergy, an NGO that provides alternative energy and water filtration systems to isolated communities along the sparsely populated coast and inland waterways of the region.
Working among engineers and professional tinkerers, James decided that a hot water system for the staff housing was a luxury that was well within the realm of possibility. With a little bit of down time and lots of PVC piping, the crew set forth to design, build and plumb a thermosyphon solar water heating system.
For those who had not taken a hot shower in more than a year, this system was truly a gift. In fact, the system was such a hit that a solar hot tub was built behind the house.
A year and a half of research, due diligence and hard work was to follow this small success and from that springs the Sunbank, the most efficient and affordable year round solar water solution on the market.
